Transportation between Xela (Quetzaltenango) and Guatemala City
Most students fly into Guatemala International Airport – La Aurora International Airport or GUA. SISAI does arrange for bus transportation from Guatemala City to Xela. Normally the journey takes between 3.5 to 4 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. The school will help to arrange pickup from the airport to the bus station. The only two bus lines the school recommends is Linea Dorada & Fuente del Norte. These are both 1st class Pullman buses that offer daily non-stop service between Guatemala City and Xela.
If you arrive at the Guatemala International Airport in the late afternoon or evening, the school will make arrangements for you to stay the night with the school’s Guatemala family in the Capitol. They will pick you up at the airport, transport you to their home, feed you and take you to the bus station in Guatemala City in the morning.
Once you arrive at the Minerva Bus Station in Xela, the school will personally pick you up and take you to your host family or wherever you are staying.

Getting around Xela
SISAI Spanish School is located in Zone 1, which is the historic part of the city. This part of the city is very walkable. If you need to go to other Zones, such as Zone 3 for Wal-Mart, you can take the public mini-bus transportation called Collectivos for about Q1.25 one way. There are several mini-bus Colletivo stations located throughout Zone 1 that are easy to walk to from the school. If you prefer, taxis are also available for about Q30 – Q45 depending on which Zone you want to go to. Like any big city, when the sun sets it is highly recommended that all students take a taxi to wherever they need to go.
